Just in case anyone buys the tire changer: before putting a wheel on it the first time cut up an old tire and put the rubber on the barse that hold your wheel to prevent scratches etc. (got a buddy who learned that the hard way!)

I recently started changing my own tires and I invested about $50 to get started. I picked up a pair of tire spoons from dennis kirk for a reasonable price

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...1811&mmyId=

They work pretty well.

Secondly, I bought some pieces of leather from my local hobby lobby to put between the rim and the tire irons when prying off the old tire.

Thirdly, I bought some dynamic balancing beads from innovative balancing

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...1811&mmyId=

They were good for 120+mph at blackhawk farms raceway a couple of weeks ago. Best $17 bucks I ever spent on tire balancing. My only regret is that I didn't get more beads with my shipping money.

I use a pair of channel locks and a big pry bar to break my beads, then it's a little (or a lot) of elbow grease to get the old tire off. New one's go on, dyna beads go into the tire (check their website for instructions), air goes in, I'm ready to roll. All in about 30 minutes a tire (that includes dis and re mounting).

Just my opinon

I will tell you what I learned this summer, you can save a ton over the years doing it yourself for an initial investment of about $150.

I got a tire breaker machine...the lever type for about $120 and got a balancing rod for about $30. Then I got a pair of Pirelli Diablos online for just over $200 shipped to my door. Changed them myself...really simple. Balanced them (the rear did not even need a weight), and I'm good for a couple years.

Additional value for me: the tire changer I got can remoove the big plate and be used for atv/lawnmower tires.

Just a thought...
take it to edwardtn and let him change them for $30 a piece or $20 and some beer

Just got them back the other day the local shop charged me $35 per tire to dismount, mount and balance. Granted the tire were already off the bike.
