More GREAT news from me........
battery dead.....tried charging it but advnce auto said it totally dead. any advice on a battery like what kind...advance auto says 70bucks and walmart have everstart for 40...should i be aware of anything when buying the battery?
I always go with the cheap ones from Fleet Farm or W@lm@rt. You could practically go through twocheap batteries for what the expensive one costs... Really all you need is a 12 v battery. Exact matching numbers is unnecessary in my opinion. Usually it is a matter of reversed cable position + vs -. And most bikes give you enough cable to reach the other direction. Or you could maybe turn the battery around so the cables are correctly positioned.
I'm with notny41, I don't think the high end motorcycle batteries are THAT much better than the chap ones. At Walmart the little computer will tell you which everstart to buy...usually two choices...one cheapo and one not so cheapo.
hmmm - I don't know what the specs are for these. Anyone with a service manual? Don't the stators have 3 sets of coils in them? They should all measure approximately the same ohms. Not sure what the output should be - probably more than that though. That sounds about what should be coming out of the regulator/recitifier.
Okay,it's obviouslythe measured voltage after the RR. At idle it is SUPPOSED to be low. The stator does not charge the battery below 3000 RPM. 12-14 is great above 3000 RPM...15+ would be a problem (or none!). Your stator is fine dude...how old is the battery?Motorcycle batteries do not last long. Seriously, though...what kind of tech tried to tell you your stator might be bad???
Walmart batteries are inexpensive, but not cheap. Everstart batteries are made by Johnson Controls, who also makes DieHard. Same line, same battery, different name.
The tech was from the local honda/yamaha shop. My battery was old and they charged it. He said that the battery took the charge but not sure how long it would keep the charge. when he checked the volts, he placed his meter on the battery terminal and checked the voltage. thats where i got the levels.
Yeah...sounds like maybe a battery replacement, but your stator/RR seem to be working ideally. Changing the battery is a $40 DIY from Wal-Mart...the shop will prolly charge much more, for very little. If you can tell the difference between + and - I would just DIY.
