Hi All,

Has anyone changed their guage faces from black to white on their F2? When I was prepping my bike for this season I had the dash apart and noticed 5 of the 11 bulbs were shot (I never had the cluster apart before). I was going to replace the bulbs with LEDs, and I saw the blue LEDs for the same price. I assume the blue lights would look silly under the black faces, so I looked into white faces for an F2. No dice.

Any ideas, or should I just switch all the 158s to super white LEDs instead?

how difficult is it to take apart the gauges? i ride to work and that means riding home at night often. i would like good bright gauges too. what was involvled in opening up the gauges?

 

I didn't get as far as taking apart the guages ( yet! ). I only removed the instrument cluster and looked at the bulbs.

 

Its easy on my 98 f3. Last saturday, i put a new headlight bulb in, put a new speedo in, hooked up my leds, and drilled holes and installed my frame sliders. All in a matter of 5-6 hrs. I was just taking my time too. Just take off all the fairings. Everything on the front too. There are no shortcuts here. There are 3 bolts holding the cluster in place, as well as the 2 wiring harnesses in the back. After that, there are I think 8 small screws holding the speedo in place. If you are just replacing the bulbs, then you dont have to take the speedo out of the cluster, just unscrew the bulbs in the back and put the new ones in. Most time consuming part is remembering where all the fairing bolts go. All in all, its pretty easy.

 

NO dont use the leds, they will be useless- i recently sold my F2, with that mod -and the only use of the bulb(s) is to light up the needles- just use 194's ther are super bright and will out shine ANY LEd that you can buy- I can go take pics of my old F2 if you wanna see...
