Don't take this the wrong way, and it is f2 related... Kinder.
Anyone who has a project bike, or any bike for that matter, will understand my point.
How on earth do you manage time between working on the bike, and spending time with 'er in doors'...???
Now, I'd like to think I'm quite good at this. But I always seem to be in the wrong.
If I'm in the garage, she moans. If I'm with her, the bike seems to give me these puppy dog eyes when I go back in the garage.
What gives guys?!?

It's a juggling act, there ain't no doubt about that!!!
Motorcycles/motorcycle racing is my life!! And my girl understands that, at the same time, she understands that I really DON'T love bikes more than I lover her (it's mighty close, though! ).
Basically it's like this: please don't ever make me decide between the two.
In my opinion, a good girl, who understands not just how guys are, but understands anyone who is passionate about anything, would NOT challenge you with that decision, period!

To be fair to her, she's a good lass, she'll come out with a brew, get her hands dirty with r polish and sit there for an hour or two chatting whilst I work, but then I feel guilty for not spending more time dedicated to her.
I've been riding and racing since I was 13. She knows that, and understands that. And she supports me. But I guess you're right. It's just juggling the two.

You have to set your priorities. Of course she'll complain if it's not her. It's a struggle for power. If you do what she wants, she has her foot in the door to get her way every time. Give her an inch, she'll take you a mile. What's gonna happen when you want to, heaven forbid, ride it.
Don't give in. Do what you want. She'll get over it and know that she can't change you. If she throws a fit that your at home in the garage, tell her you'll just take it somewhere else to work on it. The way I see it, she's lucky you're home.
She probably will like the fact that you take a firm stand for what you believe in, no matter what the consequences. Be the alpha dog....
If you end up banished to the garage for not caving in to her demands, think of how much work on the bike you can get done!

You are spending time with her! Watches while you work , sips a brew! Boy, you are a lucky one and likely she thinks she is too. I tell my wife that I could be out with the boys every night swilling beer but I'm not. I'm home with her and the kids, maybe in the basement for some of that time but none the less home- with her. They do get over it and small kindnesses and occassional one on one time does wonders.
