Default First bike

I bought a 1993 F2 today as my first bike ever. I have never ridden dirt bikes or any other kind of motorcycle. Getting the bike home was one of the scariest 45 minutes of my life. I had my girlfriends dad ride the bike home with no plates or license. I thought he was going to crash the whole time I was freaking out the whole way home.

When we got 2 minutes from my house a cop pulls him over for having no plates. Now he has to go to court on the 28th and im gonna have to pay his fees.

Anyways, I gave it a short test drive down a side street before I bought it. I made a turn around in a Wendys parking lot and I was going maybe 5 MPH when for some reason I hit the front brake pretty hard. The whole back popped in the air and I actually did a really high high "stoppie".

Long story short...I am scared as **** to ride it now and I really hope I didnt waste my money on this bike. Can I get some help?

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the new bike.

My suggestion to you, Is to take the MSF training course, to help you learn all the basics and not so basics of riding.
Be GENTLE on the front brakes, little at a time not a handful of front brake, Or you'll eat asphalt.
Ride safe and have fun.

got to take it easy on the front breaks lol i found that out myself lol. listen up man you bought the bike so u know you want to ride take it slow at first start off in parking lots instead of the street, get the feel of the bike. last but not least its not if it when you lay it down you have to get right back on the beast and fight it back down. everything will be okay this is a great site to get info from and help from freinds welcome to the cbr family

Try to use the rear brakes and down shift more and gradually use the front brake. Take a motorcycle training course for better handling of the bike. Great way to learn to ride. We love our F2 and know yours is not a waste of money. Enjoy!

Yep - MSF course for sure - unless you're a hardcore mountain biker, it sounds like you have no natural instinct - that's not an insult, it just means you have zero experience on 2 wheels, as you stated.

MSF course will drill those instincts into you. Last thing you need to be doing is 45mph and have a dog walk out in front of you with no built in panic reaction (On a motorcycle, grabbing the brakes in a lot of situations is not what you want to do first, (what you found out in the parking lot) although that's the only response you have built in at this point as an automobile driver)

You can find info here - http://www.msf-usa.org/

Sounds like you are an idiot, but we all did the same stuff when we first started out. Get yourself a license by taking the msf course. Start small and slow and work your way up. Have fun!

Thanks everyone...except the guy who called me an idiot.

Anyways, is there a way to open the seat and is their any space down there to store stuff? I never got an owners manual with the bike so this will help.

Thanks

there is storage, you pull the side panels off the driver's side of the tail to access them. Give the plastic bolt a half turn til it releases, and the rest are press-in fittings. The seat is bolted in. There is a mod to fabricate quick release - see this thread: https://cbrforum.com/forum/f2-tech-93/mechanical-spring-seat-release-110209/

Also - you can download the Honda service manual from here: http://www.cbrextreme.com/downloads/...manual-14.html

Take an MSF course!!! My F2 is my first bike ever, like you never rode dirt bike or nothin other than bicycle.

If I hadnt taken MSF I would be nowhere near as confident as I needed to be to get out of the many MANY near fatal sittuations I have been in (california freeways nuff said)

In Fact, the other day I did a dumb thing by grabbing the brakes! Almost cost me my life so pay attention.

I was on the freeway cruising in the carpool lane. I had ample room infront and behind me to stop if needed so I wasn't tailgating or cutting lines. I take a look to my left at some mountains just for a second... I look back forward OMFG car infront of me slams his brakes on. I have .25 seconds to react so I quickly countersteer and head towards the carpool divider line. I grab my brakes to slow me down and as SOON as I grabbed the brakes, it was like an explosion went off under me... I did what is called a tank slapper. I was thrown up in the air (still holding on) while the bike jerked violently beneath me. My left ankle slammed into the peg and my wrists were shaken pretty violently. Thank god I remained on the bike or else you wouldnt see this post from me today. Thankfully I remained calm after the slapper and was able to manuever to saftey.

my ankle still hurts and my wrists are a bit sore still and this was on firday. so like 5 days ago.

Just be careful with the brakes man ESPECIALLY if you are leaned over. it will snap the bike vertical faster than you can blink!

IDK if I would have made it out alive if I hadnt had MSF but ****... im glad at least I learned how to handle a bike a little in stressful sittuations.
