I have seen huge tires stuffed onto F2 rims, so as for the limit I don't know.
I know you can, with little effort and tinkering, get larger rims on the f2 allowing you to safely put on larger tires but still...
Why do you want a fatter tire? It will ruin your handling. If you want it for the way it looks then by all means go for it, but don't go trying to actually ride hard in the turns or you will find yourself in a ditch.

I was thinking "why" as well. That's what made me check out this post. I have an F3 and personally I really like the feel of the way the 160 I have turns in. I've had bikes that come standard with 180 rears but I really like the narrower tyre. Reminds me more of my old RGV250(still a big difference though, just a stupid comparisson) I had accept for the obvious weight difference. I totally agree with the stuffing up handling thing but if looks and just cruising around are your thing, then go for it.

Everybody, but Jesse is wrong! CBR900rr 5.5inch 180 has been proven to fit! The faster you go, you will need to get more lean down on the track. So that is why you need a 180 for more lean and grip(stability) for cornering. The more you corner/ lean, the faster you can get lap time, the fatter the tire.
As far as street riding, 160 will obviously work.

Liter bikes uses 180's because of the much higher HP and the rear STILL slips out. Our little F2s are what, 60hp less than the liter bikes?
I run 160's at the track and do just fine. I had a friend with a gsxr 1000 who couldnt take me in the turns.
Whatever you do don't squeeze bigger tires on smaller rims. You mess up the profile of the tire and get horrible handling. If you are horny for big tires get a bigger rim, and expect slower handling.
