Dumb question...
Is there a way to remove the wheels without a stand or is there something that can be constructed? I want to polish the rims...is it even necessary to remove them??? is there a strp-by-step write up?
If you do it one at a time you can use a floor jack in conjunction with the side stand and leverage either wheel off the ground.
I would recommend buying stands though............you can't go wrong with them and you'll thank yourself later.

There are stand sets on eBay for as little as $100 with shipping. I was going to buy a Pit Bull, but but then found one of the Lockhart stands locally for $80 and went with that one. Simple to use and I can even wheel the bike around from the back just by lifting the snad slightly.
My Brother In Law said he would use a 2x4 with a few jack stands. Put the board under the bike and rest one end on the jack stands. Then left the bike up and rest the board on the other stand. Seems like an invitation for disaster, but the bike is still in good condition. (mine now)
