Yea bending a subframe a bit to make it true is one thing.... forks is a no-no. Straight as an arrow or not at all..

Awww... but they're perfectly straight. I spent a whole Saturday on them. I ran into a personal moral dilemma, because I have a 94. Having a 94 means I have cartridge forks. So, I decided I'd risk the possibility of the front half of my motorcycle coming off and me running over it at 100 miles an hour for the sake of (hopefully trustworthy) good handling and a huge amount of saved cash. I just had to buy one fork seal and dust boot. Everything else for my build pretty much went dead wrong, so I had to make it happen. (The bad things weren't my fault. It just was what it was. I don't believe in luck, I just believe I bought a crappy motorcycle and paid the price. )

i know how you feel on that. it seems like everytime i fix a problem on the bike lately, something new pops up that i have to fix. its frustrating as hell but im too far along now to give up.

Yeah... but just like p8ddy, for the sake of F2's existing, I've resolved to keep mine on the road. Just got new tires for next season and a new windscreen. She's headed toward A++ condition, and I wish p8ddy and you the same experience.

Well... A little update. Have started buying bits for the f2.

I had a wobble yesterday though - I had the chance to buy an F4, 2001 for £1000. I passed it up. I was sorely tempted, but the bike had no history and after HPIing it, the mileage came up as dodgy - advertised with 9600, HPI came back with 13700 in 2008. And the plastics had all been replaced.

I started to think that maybe the bike hadn't been vandalised like the ad said, but in fact had been rode into the back of a car or taken a harder fall that the F2.

Bargain price or no, I decided that I was better with the devil I know.

This weekend I'm buying a custom Repsol f3 kit from Moto-777 on Ebay. Custom as in the colours are all correct but no corporate sponsors (unless they give me free petrol and tyres!)

So...there we have it...

Turned down a bargain f4. To be honest, judging from comments, I doubt it's riding position would have been as good for commuting as the f2 anyway.

Ahhh....and relax. :-)

Yeah I was looking at e-fairings too, but I ended up winning some tail panels on Ebay for 40 bucks total including shipping, so I went the OE route. I'm happy about it. Everything just... fits.

Latest update:

On Sunday, a friend and I took the twist out of the rear subframe. Hard work but it's almost perfect (maybe 5 mm out, but as close as we could get it, and well within reasonable deviation) - The eye has a habit of playing tricks, so it seemed it was safe to leave it at that as everything will mount straight and the seat sits straight looking where before it sat with a squint.

Everything to repair the bike has been bought so I'm almost totally good to go.

One thing that has got me concerned slightly though...The rear tyre I crashed on, a Diablo Corsa. My mate recently had an off similar to mine using this tyre, and eraser0 also would appear to have came off the same way. The reviews all said the tyre was a good track tyre, but in the wet I'm starting to be concerned. Should I be? Like I say, that's three crashes all on the same tyre.

...There seems to have been some problem with the forum as my post has halfed and the pics have disappeared! Bizarre...

Anyway, here's the (photoshopped) pics

I forgot also to order my new fairing bolts. Just off the probolt website and have ordered a nice new set of black alloy bolts! It's coming together!
