Default Charging and petcock issues

North Dakotas 101 inches of total winter snow accumulation is nearly melted completely...so im getting ants in my pants.

I just bought a new battery and stuck it in this week. The battery seemed weak today when i went to start it but the bike started right up. I thought if I rode it a while the battery should be charged enough. The bike ran about 20 minutes and I stopped for gas. Go to start it again and sure enough battery is dead. Ended up push starting it and drove it home.

Question is: Did the bike run long enough to charge the new battery or do i most likely have charging issues? It seems to charge when the bike is running simply because the headlight gets brighter with more throttle.

Also, I have not owned the bike long, and I have never known the petcock position between ON, OFF, and RESERVE. Can anyone tell me what positions those are?

If it was your charging system it wouldnt of pop started and drove home. Sounds like your battery. Check water levels in it. you drove it long enough to charge. i would try checking what the charging voltage is tho. Also make sure at the battery that all connections are tight

The battery is brand new from Interstate batteries and they are very reliable. Probably the most reliable in this area. I do not believe it is a battery problem, and you cant check water levels on this battery for it is sealed.

I got a good charger for it, but im afraid it will last as long as the charge will last!

Any ideas on the petcock? I could use trial and error but i dont want to get stranded!!
