Do it with the engine cold, so the tick is most prominent.

Remove your right side tail fairing, remove your right side inspection fairing, remove your right side lower fairing.

Locate the CCT, 2 bolts hold it in place, remove those 2 bolts and carefully remove the gasket. I had a re-usable metal gasket, you should too I think.

Clean the surface on the motor where the CCT mounts, and clean the gasket.

If you are using a manual CCT (APE) Back out the bolt all the way, andback the lock nut and o-ring3/4 of the way out.

Install it the same way it came out, 2 bolts and gasket in place, make sure you get it the right way around, study the shape of the CCT and where it mounts up.

I dont think the automatic CCT requires any adjustment, just bolt it in and start it up, if there's no tick it's all good.

If you have the manual CCT, thread the bolt in BY HAND, do not use a wrench. Thread it in until it's hand-tight, then back it off 1/4 turn.

Start the motor up and keep your hand on the bolt because it will want to back out from vibration, if it's still ticking thread it in a little more. It's tempting to keep threading it in because now it's easy to turn with the motor running - dont do this because you will over-tighten it.

Just get it so the tick is gone, and no more. If it starts to tick again you can go back and adjust it.

Good luck, it's an easy job! The 2 bolts that hold the tensioner down are 8mm, and you will need an extension on your socket wrench.

I used a manual CCT after my stock one went out. No problems since!

I would recommend this change.

I tried adjusting mine... the ticking is still there... My sypmtom is that when I hold the clutch down, the ticking is gone, and when I release the clutch its there... how is this associated with a cam chain that is connected to the motor... not the clutch?

Hi there, sorry to bring up this old post but I have the same symptom

Where can I find a new (working) CCT?
- Is about 67$ to much for a new tensioner + gasket?

Looks like a straight forward operation

Jahnoboi, your problem isnt the CCT, it is the clutch going out more than likely.

(same item? Shipping is much less in the latter(to the land of Ice and snow))

I guess this is the shiznic then? A manual one?

If you use a manual one, do you have to adjust it often?

Advantages of having a manual over an automatic?

(sorry for all ze questions )

YOu would only have to adjust the manual if somehow the securing nut loosened alittle and backed the bolt out. That is the advantage of a manual as well that you can adjust it. The OEM hydraulic will fail after some time as it is already happening with almost everyone.
