I recently cleaned the carbs and without thinking while trying to sync the carbs I got them all out of whack. When I start the bike it will scream to 6K + RPM. Does anyone know what a good starting off point would be for these three screws. I have tried 2.5 out, all the way in, 5 out and lots of diffrernt combinations. Admittley it is hard to work on the engine while this thing is screaming. Note: the idle is all the way out.
A couple things here. With the throttle completely in the “off” position, where are the butterfly valves? They should basically be almost closer as well. If not, there’s where you should start looking.
As to the position of the screws in question, a good starting point is to have them set so you can barely slide something small between the butterfly valves and the carb throat. People use all sorts of things. Some use a guitar string or a small gauge. I personally always use a small sewing needle, because that’s what I had handy once and I just stuck with it.
I suspect your issue lay’s somewhere else but taking care of the above is a necessary start.
I was able to fix this by pulling the carbs and adjusting the screws so all valves were as close as possible and then once that was done I could make my small adjustments. It is crazy how sensitive the screws are.
Good deal. Yes, they are incredibly sensitive. The smallest tweak of the wrist has major impact. What you did is considered a bench sync. For a complete job, you now need to follow-up with a sync utilizing gauges. That's when you will see major improvement.
