Carb Cleaner??

RE: Carb Cleaner??
I have not done it and this is not 'expert' advice, but no one else has responded. I would think that it would be relatively safe. WhatI would do is ensure you use an amount proportionate to the size of the tank...probably only a third of a bottle or less with a full tank of gas. I would also say that if you are having performance issues that led you to a carb-cleaner you may want to take the tank and airbox off and clean the carbs manually...

RE: Carb Cleaner??
u can use carb cleaner in the tank. but i agree that is better to clean the carb manually you gona get more of the build up out and be able to see what is clogged. some times **** gets too built up where ugotta brush or spray the **** out. spent the hour or 2 and do it right.

RE: Carb Cleaner??
what do you mean dont do it? that website that you posted is talking about octane boosters and different octane gas. they didn't say anything about running carb cleaner thru the gas. i personally have done it for two years now and it's worked just fine. unless i just dont know that i'm hurtin my carbs by doin this...

RE: Carb Cleaner??
Most cleaners and octane boosters are ethanol type additives. If you put the stuff in there is too high of a concentration it can be bad for certain rubber sealing materials and even some metals. So, go ahead and use it, but if it says that bottle is good for 20 gallons, don't pour the whole thing in there.
As for how good they clean, I consider them more of a maintenance cleaner...you have a plugged up jet, you are going to have to clean it manually or replace it. But run a cleaner through once or twice a year, treat your gas prior to storageand that should never happen.
All that said, I use Chevron or Seafoam.

+1 on doing it for maintenance only. If it's so bad that you're having problems, you should clean them manually.
I use SeaFoam 3 times a year in my gas. Use 1 ounce for every gallon of gas. Run the whole tank to reserve before adding more gas. Additives like SeaFoam lower the octane rating of gas, so take that into consideration. You don't want any pre-detonation or anything.
