Default cam chain question?

My 94 f2 has a bad cam chain tensioner and tops out around 130 mph. Everything is stock. I have been told that my bike should have a faster top speed. is this true? If so could this be because of my bad tensioner? Will my bike have more power when its replaced? Thanks

Well, I wouldnt suggest doing 130mph, but anyway... The tensioner shouldnt have anything to do with the power of you motor unless your jumping teeth (which would most likely blow your motor if it did). If your toping the motor out at 130 (do you mean the rpms are maxed out? or just running out of power to get any higher?) I would think the bike isnt stock, and someone has changed the gearing on it for better acceleration = less top speed. I do believe that the f2 is capable of faster than 130, but I'm not stupid enough to test that out, or maybe I'm just a chicken $hit. Get a manual cam chain tensioner and be done with that issue.

My rpms arent maxed out, my bike has several thousand rpms to go and just stops picking up speed at 130

hmmm, sounds like you are having real power issues then, someone else who knows more about this particular problem would have a better opinion I would say. Possibly you need to have the carbs cleaned? If you arent getting enough fuel that could cause a loss of power. Anyone else?

Sounds like a fuel problem to me. Also could be a dirty air filter. Dirty carbs or dirty air filters will limit max speed. Also, if you're a bigger dude, your bike might not have the power to overcome wind resistance with your weight. These bikes should easily do in excess of 130. I've gotten mine to 145, with room to spare. When you're going that fast, it's very important to make sure your bike is in very good shape (steering head bearings, fork seals, wheel bearings, chain, etc.)

change your cam chain adjuster. when that cam chain is just whipping around with out the proper tension on it your timing is going out of whack. It is around $60 to change it, why wouldn't you?

Thanks for all your replies. The fuel or air filter might be the problem. But for the weight, I only weigh 155LBS. Could someone tell me how to get to my air filter? Thanks

I pulled my air filter out tonight and I was suprised to find a clean K&N filter in it. I also remember getting my carbs cleaned and a tuneup last year about 2 weeks before I topped it out. The bike has like 28000 miles on it. Do you guys think maby its just gettin old and thats the top speed of the bike now? Also is there anything that I could do as far as a engine rebuild for better speed? If so how much would it cost? My shop gets $60 an hour. Is there any kind of performance wise for more power during a rebuild? thanks

You need a cam chain adjuster. Part number 5 - If there is no tension on your cam chain then your timing is being affected, change the adjuster already!!!!!!!!!!!
