bike wont start/run/idle with choke off..

What's going on?
I'm having a very similar problem: I have a 1994 CBR 600 F2 I bought about two weeks ago.
The guy I bought it from rode it an hour and a half to a halfway meeting point. I rode it for about 15 miles and it ran like a dream, loaded it up on the truck and drove home.
The next day it fired right up and I went for a ride and almost got into a wreck. Decided since I had been out of the game for awhile (5 years) I'd take the MSF course again.
So the bike sat for one week. Well after the course yesterday it was time to ride. The bike wouldn't start. After a little research I found a vacuum line just laying around. Well on the exhaust side of the fuel valve there is a nipple that looked a perfect fit for the hose. Plugged it up choked it, started right up. Smooth and purring.
Now I let it warm up and turned off the choke and it died. Would not stay running without choke.
Now I know most are going to say a carb cleaning, but it ran like a dream a weak ago.. So I'm not completely sure that's the problem.
I'm going to replace the plugs today after work and do some more research on this vacuum line. I really don't think it was hooked up before when the bike ran. And me being pretty mad I couldn't ride all day yesterday I didn't even think to see if it would run if I unplugged in.
So here are the questions: Does anyone here have an F2? Think you could help me out with this laying around vacuum line? Anyone else have any suggestions on what else to try? I'm going to have it half apart tonight for the plugs, so let me know, thanks..

You plugged the vacuum line into the correct location, good job doing that on your own.
Now that you have a full stream of fuel running to the carbs it will be running differently, try checking your idle screw located on the left side of the bike to see if it is wound out too far.
If you're doing the plugs, you should pull the carbs anyway and give them a cleaning - it will only make things better, that way you know it is done.

I agree with Hersh. when i first got my f2 running, it wouldnt say on without the choke fulllyyy pushed down. i was told to mess with the idle screw with the choke on, then slowly turn the choke off while adjusting the idle screw.. our problems might be completely different but if it doesnt work at least you can cross out that its not the idle screw.

Well.. She rides again. Started it up choked, adjusted the idle screw. 5 minute job. But since I had planned to tear her down, I went ahead and did an oil change, tune up and a carb clean. Runs like she was just built. Well I appreciate your suggestions. I'll be posting some pics as soon as I get the new turn signals on.. Thanks

I can honestly admit I don't know alot about motorcycle specs, but I've been rebuild cars for almost 12 years. I'm a commercial parts pro for a parts house now. So working on bikes isn't over my head, just knowing exactly what to work on is the challenging part.. LOL... Well ttyl in different threads. L8r
