Default Bike died on highway. Please help.

Hi, I hope ya'll can help me with my bike. I recently bought this Honda CBR 600F2 1994 for cheap. Started alright and ran alright when I bought it. It had not been used much, tires were 10 years old but with plenty of tire tread. When I brought it home and had it test/registered, as we have to do every 2 years in sweden, the battery had died. I bought a new lithium battery and it started right up and passed the test.
I have now serviced the bike, so new oil, brake fluid, air filter, checked the spark plugs, had new tires fitted, new slip on exhaust. I took it out for a short ride and when my friend were to testride it it had completly died. We charged up the battery and I could ride my bike home. The rectificer/regulator had fried so the battery hadn't been charged. I now bought and installed a new R/R and charged up my battery for my new real maiden voyage with the bike.

I rode 30-40 minutes in the city, and then went out on the highway. Suddenly it started to loose power and sputter, and then the engine died. Had to stop in a lane, the road didn't have a shoulder because of a construction site. Scary as hell, cars passing in the same lane my bike was parked. Luckily I could climb into the construction zone and call a tow truck. 10 Minutes later a random road safety truck came and covered me and helped me. And then my bike started up right again, and he helped me to a gas station and I had no problems riding home.

I have no idea what happend or why it died on me.It was a hot day, 30c/86f+ but the temperature gauge showed in the middle on the temp range. Felt very hot on my thighs though. Gas in the tank, petcock on, couldn't see any of the breathing tubes kinked, vaccum line to the tank was on. Fuses for the accessories looked good.

I have the rattle that I suspect is from an old cam chain tensioner, so I will order a new manual one. Can that have anything to do with the problem? Could the temperature reading be giving false reading and the bike was overheating? Something else electric overheat? I find it weird that just 10 minutes later if would start and run again?

How much fuel was in the tank? Petcock was on, but did it get to the reserve level?

I didn't get that low, after the incident I opened it up and could see fuel on the bottom so maybe 1/4 tank or something around that.

The bike ran on what was in tank when I was escorted to the gas station.

When you opened the cap, was there negative pressure?

The cap on the gastank? No, I didn't notice anything but I wasn't thinking about it either.

I rode 2x1 hour rides today and had no issues. Can it have been some bad gas clogging up the system?

I'm tending to lean towards some kind of vapor lock in the tank. Opening the cap seemed to have cleared the issue temporarily. Pay attention to that if it does it again.

same thing happened to my 1000f right after i bought it. the tank vent was plugged up so the vacuum petcock wasnt able to flow gas into the carbs, i used a long piece of guitar string and compressed air to unplug the vent and all is well now.

Well, the bike started even before I opened the gascap. I opened it after riding it 5 minutes to the gas station. I will try to clean the vents and maybe replace the vaccum hoses anyway. I will also try a petrol cleaner.

Alright, update, I still haven't found the issue, but I replaced the vent tube, overflow tube from the tank and the vaccum line to the tank. But I found this, from another thread on the forum. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/ind...?topic=37577.0

"Why would you modify the OEM fuel petcock to remove vacuum function? Can you relate to these symptoms?

Someone is riding down the highway and the bike starts to sputter just like it does when you need to switch to reserve, only he hasn't ridden that far yet. He switches to reserve and is able to go a little farther before the bike starts to slow down again. When he pulls over and idles on the side of the highway, the engine recovers and he is good to go for a couple more miles, then the problem repeats."

Sounds exactly like my problem, not a modification I want to do, but I hope changing out the hoses/tubes will have fixed it for me.
