Default back at it again

i didnt want to revive an old thread, so here it is.

previously i was dealing with shifting issues anywhere above third. i took a look best i could without taking the clutch basket out. didnt see anything, slapped it all together an put new oil in it and i have yet to have the same problem since then.
it was addressed in previous thread that i may have bent the shift rod at the foot peg or the mechanism just behind the clutch basket. since i have put new oil in it i have actually tried a few times to get it to stick or malfunction again, i cannot.1ST QUESTION: what in the world happend? i want to dive into it an make sure its all good but i am hesitant as this bike is how they say, "clapped out" lol.
yes, its naked. yes, its got mad toggle switches. and you better believe shes been wrecked a few times. i love this bike and i cant bring myself to sell it. i recently painted the frame and almost lost it when she wouldnt turn on or even try to start. traced my wiring an found the short and "fixed" it. at times every couple starts the starter button does nothing. press, press, press an hold..... nothin. jimmy jimmy pull.... starts. if i take push button off and use wires only, same thing.
2nd QUESTION: why is my starter button intermittent even with good fuses and connections.
TIA

I approve.

You took things apart. Then put them back together.
Maybe you fixed it in the process without knowing it.
Maybe you did something else to the bike at the same time and that fixed it.
Maybe something was just out of adjustment.
Maybe the bike was afraid you get out some real tools and try to pull the clutch basket and decided it had better start working.
Maybe you were just imagining the whole thing and your bike never had a problem to begin with. Some people will do anything to spend time in the garage with their bike.
It's hard for us to know without being there. One thing I can tell you for sure, it had nothing to do with putting new oil in. The oil doesn't know what gear your in, so don't even go there.

If you tried using the wires, then it's not the push button.
The push button activates a relay. It's possible the relay is going bad.
The relay connects the battery to the starter. It's possible the starter is going bad.
It's also possible you have an intermittent short or ground in one of those circuits.
