Another CCT question... again
Alright, Got the tensioner, installed it and VOILA!!!!!! problem fixed. No more crazy rattle at random times. No one should ever buy the Honda Replacement part EVER. Always get the Manual CCT. Britman, get the tensioner from this guy on Ebay, $50 shipped for and APE manual tensioner.

This is the one I bought, just send him a message and tell him you need one for our bike.

Hey guys, something happened today that seemed odd. When the bike is running and slightly worse when completely hot is that I hear the slight clatter from the valvetrain. Today I went to Mr Hero for lunch, ate and went back out. Started the bike and all I could hear for like 10 seconds was what sounded like the engine coming apart. Picture taking a rake and dragging it along a metal fence. It seemed to run fine and after 10 seconds or so it sounded normal again. Is this something that happens to you guys, could this be the CCT, or is it most likely noise from the valve train because the engine was hot and the oil drained down?
And when the CCT goes, does it make that noise all the time, or just at certain times?
Thanks much.

That is exactly what mine sounded like, sometimes it would be totally fine and run good and other times it sounded like i had a rock rumbliinininng around in my valve train. I replaced the cct with a OEM one from Honda and that did nothing, I still had the noise. I just replaced the new cct that i had just bought with an APE manual cct and all is good, no more noise. At least not yet. I cannot say 100% that the cct is your problem, but it proboly is and for $50 its not a big deal to try and fix the problem. If it doesnt work, move on to something else.

Definitely sounds like the CCT. The Honda ones can back out and go back in once the oil pressure/heat has built up. Also I think the CCT doesn't actually make direct contact with the chain. There is a slider (thin strip of metal) that the CCT pushes against the chain. I don't think this part is prone to failure but it could be worth a look.
I'm no mechanic so if anyone knows better or if I'm talking out of my **** just let me know!!!

And this is why this forum is great. I have the exact same problem, and bang, its the 4th topic down.
Now, does the manual one need adjusting at certaint times, or would you just adjust it if the noise came back (meaning it probly got loose?). How do you know the right tension to set it at in the first place?

I think the problem with the CCT in the older bikes is oil pressure. Mine clatters after installing a new stock one for about a minute, or until i take off. Once it is warmed a lil, and has some oil pumping, the noise is gone. Doesnt come back until i shut the bike off and restart it again. To prove this theory, is that people are putting the Manual ones on and the noise is gone. Since it isnt relying on the oil pressure to work it, there isnt an issue. So i would say as long as the chatter isnt happening in the 3-6K RPM range while riding, then it should be fine. It just needs to build some oil pressure up when you start the bike to get the CCT to run properly. This is my insight on this. If anyone has any arguments, or anything to add, please do. I think about this often and thats the only conclusion i can come up with after putting a brand new stock one on and the noise only there on startup now. Before i put the new one on, the chatter was there around 4K RPM. So now that is gone with the new one. So the old one on my bike was bad for sure.
I will agree with yellow, I just hate that sound. I feel like a fool when I start my bike around all my friends and they cring at the sounds it makes at idle. Plus that cannot be good for the chain and the actual guide the chain seats in.

Same here. I just dont park in the Bike parking area at work. I park in the regular lot. Warm it up and then ride by them once the sound is gone..
That should give me atleast a 6 on the coolness factor.. Maybe?

Hi, I fitted a manual cct about 5 weeks ago, all has been fine until the other day when a slight noise came back again but not as bad as before, I have covered approx 600 miles since fitting it. I have now re adjusted it and all is fine again, should I need to adjust it so often or have I got other problems.
