Default 1993 Cbr 600F2 - Oil on spark plugs

Hello every i am new to this forum, i have recently bought an old cbr 600f, while trying to remove the spark plugs i lost a socket in the spark plug chamber and used an unorthodox way of getting it out by flipping the bike upside down and tap the engine with a hammer.

I am guessing that flipping the bike upside down has caused oil to be on the spark plugs and the bike wouldnt fire, i have taken the spark plugs out several times since and dried the oil off them which makes the bike fire again but a couple of days later the bike wont fire and i check the spark plugs and there is oil on them again.

Since i have only bought the bike recently i dont know if flipping the bike upside down is causing this issue or is it something more sinister?

Thanks guys

Cam cover gasket is propably leaking. Or you have hammered a crack on the cover.

If the bike you have is a 93 F2, then you've posted in the wrong section.
You'll get more help if you post in the right section.

Flipping the bike upside down generally isn't a great idea.
You'd definitely get oil up into the cylinders and on the plug.
It will take a while to get that all out. More than just firing the bike up.
You'll need a couple longer rides and get the engine hot.

So fix whatever it is your trying to fix first.
Then clean the plugs once and go for a long ride and all will be good.

Turned the motor upside down to get a socket out? I guess it's a good thing that it didn't go down the garage disposal or you would have one hell of a time turning the house over.... Lol

Next time use a magnet. Phil is right, it will take a bit.

....and thread moved.

Hello everyone, apologies for the late update but i have solved the problem, i am a relative novice to working on bikes but decided to grab the bull by the horns and do some homework into fully stripping the bike.

Oil on the spark plugs has been solved with a good run of the bike with new spark plugs once the following was done listed below

The fuel petcock was leaking on the closed position causing the carbs to flood and overflow as well as the old petcock not having any form of filter on it.

I fully stripped the carbs which where completely filthy and blocked which explains the rough idle/misfiring of cylinders as well as already starting the foul the new spark plugs

Steeped all the carb needles in cleaner and buffed them up.

Float bowls where full of gunge/rust particles from the tank.

Drained the fuel tank to get as much rust as possible out then replaced with a new petcock/filter.

The bike had been SORNED since 2012 and even though it was a in good nick fore the age it just needed a good bit of TLC.

Thanks for the help guys im sure there will be more questions to follow sooner or later

Awesome, sounds like you are getting it sorted out. Just needed some TLC and you'll have a great bike.
