Default Why is the Plug from generator melting

Hi
Can someone help me with this little problem on my 1987 CBR600fh
The other night I was riding along and I noticed my voltage was going up to 17-18 volts.
Thinking the regulator is on its way out I set about testing it, then I noticed the three pin connector from the generator to the regulate had started to melt.

Does anybody know why this might happen??

That's what happens when the R/R fails and gets hot. Very typical with that design.

There are better options out there that seem to hold up better. Have a look around the forum. There must be hundreds of threads about this issue.

You want a MOSFET type regulator. The overcharging is a bad RR and will destroy your battery so don't run it like that.
