Default Why Is Speedometer Cover Melting?

I have an 05 CBR 600 RR. I noticed that on the middle top of my speedometer cover appears to be melting. What is causing this? I'm taking the bike into the shop tomorrow (still under warranty) and I don't want them to BS me around. I can hear them now...."It is your windscreen acting as a magnifyingglass on thecover. Below is a picture of another bike that appears to be having the same "defect." The one on my bike is worse. Thanks.

Isnt that the "custom" one thats on ebay right now???? . Either way, its your windscreen. Zero and Puig have a tendency to do that.

That is what I have. A Puig DB. What can I do to remedy this problem other than remove the screen? Is there another screen I can get that is smoke colored that won't make the dash melt anymore? Thanks again.

Well, you might not want to hear the BS about it being your windscreen (sorry to bust your double-bubble), but that's exactly what it is. If you bought your Puig brand new, then you should have gotten thewarning that the windscreen will do this along with the installsheet. What I do is carry a bandana in my trunk so when I have to park in the sun, I just use the bandana to cover my dash. You can use any kind of clothcover to do this.

WTF... This is the first I've heard of this and I'm looking to buy a new screen soon. Thanks for the heads up.

another thing you can do (like a few others have) is paint the screen 1/2 way up with black paint. that way, the lower portion of the screen is blacked out (not allowing it to melt), yet the upper portion is unpainted letting you still see thru it.

Here's Puig's response:

Hi George,

Yes, double bubble screens (no matter what brand) can burn the top of your
dash. We supplied a warning sticker and/or a paper with the screen that
recommend the following:
- don't leave the bike where sunrays can hit the inside part of the screen.

That usually happens when the sun is running low (winter time). It is easier
for the sunrays to hit the interior part of the screen.

Sorry for the inconvenience it has caused you.

Best regards,
PUIG.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably be painting the bottom portion of it to save a little money. Anyone know if I can replace the dash cover?

so I'm confused, is it the sun shining through the windscreen, or from behind, that causes
the light to focus and melt the dash?

either way, guess I should start carrying a rag
