Default Tranny error or User error...

So, I am new to the Forum & new to riding. I recently purchased an '88 CBR600. I love it! BUT, I went on a short ride yesterday and when I pulled it back in my garage it would not shift back into Neutral. The shift lever will only move through 2 gears. AAHH! Am I in need of a new tranny, or could I possibly be doing something wrong?

Tranny error is possible but its probably you. some times you might be clicking the lever to hard and skipping neutral. Also, Try holding in the clutch and rolling the bike forward a foot or two and it should go into neutral when you shift it.

its probably not you. it can be a bit tricky to get used to getting it just right to find neutral. however, i normally leave my bike in N when its parked. if i do put it in gear, 1st or 2nd, it CAN be a pain in the *** to get back into gear. not always, but sometimes. is this the first time you have put it into gear while it was parked? or just the first time it happened?

oh yeah, and rolling it as mentioned can help also. but that doesnt do me any good when mine is stuck.
