Thinking of buying a Hurricane

This is my first post here so here goes.
I am looking at a 1988 Hurricane, that is in perfect condition with just one flaw that I know of. The bike revs up fine with no hesitation but on the road at around 3000-4000 rpm it starts to sputter and spit. Once its past 4000 it seems to run better but not at full power. This is a friends bike and I know how well he takes care of his vehicles. To me it sounds like the carbs need to be synchronized (he says they were cleaned and jetted by mechanic last year). Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Yup, sounds like you are running out of fuel for some reason when the engine is under a load. I doubt it's the synch issue. Probably clogged or the fuel pump is not working correctly. Something is impeeding the fuel flow to the carbs smoothly or once to the carbs, an intermediate or main jet may be clogged. Stuck needle? Could be I suppose.
I dont think a simple carb synch will fix your problem.

The cane has to be the most picky bike on synced carbs I know of. Out of sync, out of good riding, the fall on its face is pretty indicitave. They also like to get really gunked up, really quickly. The FSM is now online so, https://cbrforum.com/m_491696/tm.htmthere ya go. It should cover everything you need to rebuild them.

The fuel pump can be a turd as well. Everything seems OK until you rev it and sometimes the problem will go away for a while and then return. Turned out to be a mechanism on the pump
exterior that was malfunctioning. I replaced it with the same mechanism that was off of a 750 VFR pump. Other than that, IMO a well maintained Hurricane is a good buy. Good luck!
