stock muffler

Hi James
I believe you can. The packing gasket for the OEM muffler 87-90 is also used for the stock mufflers for the years you state. At least that's how the packing gasket is advertised. So I reckon the newer honda mufflers will physically fit on to the header. I know this cos I got a packing gasket for my OEM muffler.
What I don't know is the ID (where the baffles are and end hole) of the newer mufflers which will obviously affect fuelling.
I'd personally recommend trying to find the correct stock muffler for the bike if you can like I did. Your bike will run very nicely and have better mpg with it although I think in the States it can be a hard job finding one.
I'm pretty sure I noted down the ID and OD of the OEM link pipe when I was trying to put it on so I'll try to give you them in the next coupla days which might help a bit with matching up a newer part.
Alternatively you could go with an aftermarket muffler made for the bike?

Hi bro, I dunno if this will help at all but - the outside diameter of the end of the header pipes (on my bike with original headers) is 45mm. The internal diameter of an original equipment muffler where it clamps on to the header is 55mm. So there's a 5mm difference to make up with an exhaust gasket seal.
So whatever link pipe/ stock muffler you go for has to be pretty close to these measurements (do your own measuring too) in order to fit.
