Default RE: sprocket and tire problems

It depends on what your "boys" are riding. No amount of gearing on earth will help you beat a better rider on a faster bike. First thing, are you talking beating these guys to 50mph? Or 1/4mile? If you really want to beat em, take a riding school, or do some track days and whip their *** in some twisties. That is much more gratifying. But, it doesnt sound like that is a concern for you. SO, first off, if you are over weight, lose weight, that's the easiest, and often most overlooked way to get your bike faster, look at your self. 10lbs on a bike/rider combo is good for roughly a 1/10th in the quarter. Go up 4 teeth on the rear sprocket. I beleive the 600 hurricane comes with a 15t front, dont go lower than 15. Figure out what stock gearing is and add 4 teeth to that. Order it anywhere online. Replace the chain at the same time, go 520 on the chain size. Next, practice, be prepared to buy a new clutch if you are any good. You have to slip the clutch, and it will go bad much faster. But, practice makes perfect. Also, dont bother with a wider tire. It wold cost you so much to change it, and youre still stuck with bias ply unless you change the front too. Good luck.
