should i buy used 87 cbr600
Bike has 40000 miles on it
Guys says he did regular maint the whole time he has owned it. says its running "well"
will the bike be worth 1000 with the 40000 miles on it or should i hold out for something with a little less miles. this is going to be my first bike and i dont want to spend more money so soon after gettting it.
Not saying i dont want to fix it up if i can. but with 40000 miles im not sure about it.
Whats the average life of an ole 87 with and without average maint
Also, how hard is it to find replacement parts for it, and body upgrades too!

hows the plastic/fairings, tires, suspension? i dont think 1000 is too much for a decent looking, running bike. i bought my 87 for $400 and it came with two trail 70's, but it needs a **** load of work. you can find great deals on parts from people parting out bikes. ebay has alot of stuff, but it seems it is mostly salvage yards selling ****ty old parts at new prices. buying anything used will eventualy require some work.
have you actually seen the bike in person? if not, asking us won't be of much help because all we're going to do is ask questions that you probably can't answer, bodywork, suspension, running, etc.
you need to go see the bike for yourself and get a good assessment of how it looks, sounds, etc. telling us it has 40,000 miles doesn't say much. now if there is something that stands out to you about the bike after you've seen and heard it and you're not sure about, then ask about it.
maybe the guy really did take care of the bike or maybe he rode the **** out of it. whatever the case, you have to go see the bike. for a $1000, you might catch a break.
if the seller took care of the bike, it will last years. if not, then you will be fixing it. almost everything is available through the dealer except bodywork.

+1 on that! Mine has close to 40,000 on it with minimal maint., including lots of canyon bashing and highway riding and it runs just as good as 15 years ago. Those engines are bullet proof. If it looks OK and starts up right away then I would go for it. I just bought a 50cc scooter ( 2002 ) for my wife and paid $750 for it. Didn't even run when I looked at it but took it home and had it running in 3 hours. ( Carb, always the carb! )
