running rich
Hi,
I have an '87 cbr600f that is currently running very rich. It goes through gas like crazy. I think the last ride i took it was going through a tank of gas after 40 miles! Is it possible this is due to a leaky petcock? I noticed the petcock had some corrosion and parts of it had kind of crumbled inside where the rubber seal with the four holes is. Would this cause the problem or do the fuel pump and carbs solely regulate the amount of gas going into the combustion chambers? Anyone have any advice?
Thanks,
Aubrey

RE: running rich
I would replace/rebuild that petcock regardless, set the float height properly, and THOROUGHLY clean the carburetors out. when I got my bike, it had a TON of rust either plugging, or keeping the float needles from sealing properly, and it would run really rich and pour gas out the overflows on both sides. so start there.
