Problems running without fairings

Yea but leave the tubes on. I figured taping off the holes and pulling the tubes off would help, but that actually made it worse without them.

Well, completely taping off the holes in the frame didn't work very well. I had NO power at the top end, I couldn't even accelerate up to 85 mph. When I got to work, I cut half of the tape off, leaving half of the inlet hole exposed. Runs GREAT now! Seems to run even better than when I had the fairings on.
A buddy of mine who's getting his PhD in fluid mechanics designed a flow conditioner for me as well. When complete, it should remove essentially ALL turbulence from the incoming air, and help prevent surging. Although, I'm pretty happy right now with my tape fix

I have been running my bike for several months with just the upper cowling as well. Just to keep the headlights up. No real problems. Ive hit 115 with no real turbulence issues.
I want to buy a full set of fairings but i just dont have 900 bucks to buy new ones. I spent over 1,500 just getting the bike running again.
Anybody have any suggestions where I can get the fairings for a decent price?
My only real issues is i dont think I am getting good enough gas mileage. I am doing 20-30 miles a gallon. Is this standard or should I get the bike checked by a pro?
