pickup coils bad
So ive just been called by the dealer to say they are pricing up
some, ex japan, none over here price $280 + gst and then labour
on top . Is it a waste of time puting in a known working used set?
i no the r/r and ccts are well know to fail on the old girls, but are these a common falt to? Ive just about done everything else on this bike now and its nice and tidy and been runing really well , im just about over it and looking at moving it on . Is this a pretty straight forward job, what time frame would one exspect a dealer to find this fault? I have a spare
rr and spark unit so if they go next i should be coverd , fingers crossed. Im thinking of squareing them up for finding the fault and puting in a second hand one my self? if i can find one
bike would not start, turning over fine but no spark.

Honda in their great wisdom made some things easy to check when troubleshooting.
Is it all plugs that aren't sparking - for sure?
If you can, run through this list.
Battery 100% (if it turns over well then this should be okay)
Check for spark on plugs 1&4 and 2 &3. You have two groups in the ignition system so no spark on both sets chops your alternatives in half.
If you have no spark on any plug try:
- check that all your connectors are solid
- Is your ignition switch and handlbars switches working properly? The right-side handlebar switch probably accounts for 90% of these types of problems.
Check the resistance in your pulse generator, if this is fine then your "black box" is bad.
Download a manual and go through the troubleshooting procedures.
I have some spare electrical parts that I can sell you (for way cheaper than the dealer is quoting) I am not sure what shipping will cost from Canada but your all in price would be much cheaper. If shipping isn't that bad and you don't want the pieces permanently I can send them over to you and you can send back what you don't want.

dealer says its the pulser coils behind the crankcase cover .
Thanks for your ideas guys, ive got a manual , and i went over everything
before taking it in . The bikes been runing great and the dealer tested everything with a meter so hopefully thats all it is now, till next time
Ive tracked down someone with a good used set of pulser coils, half what the dealer quoted new, ill fit them myself so ill get it done for around $200 now thats including $60 for them finding the fault , $150 still seems alot for used units ,id still like to know cost to ship small parts from you? ,seems to be way more parts floating around over there for the old hurricane.

My brothers dogs chewed the wires off my pulse generators when it was parked at his house
it cost me $170 to replace them but I was able to fix the old ones by soldering them
back together.
A small item like that should only run you US mail $5 - $10 and dont forget to get the gasket and check the rubber seal.
