The yellow/black wire supplies the license plate light and rear turn signal lights when the ignition switch is in the 'park' position so it is not critical. Even though it has a factory connector, it still may not be wired right. Download the factory manual here and check your wire colors.http://www.cbrextreme.com/downloads/...manual-54.html

One thing you can do to check your wiring is to unplug the 6 pin connector for the ignition switch and jumper one by one the red wire to all the others. This will allow you to see what is working and what is not. Like Thrasher said, Red/ black does most everything on the bike. The brown /white and the brown wires do the lights. Blue/orange does the fan motor.

Tried jumping the wires in the ignition plug, red to all others. Nothing. Checked with a voltmeter and there is NO voltage at that red wire.

Should there be 12 volts on red at the connector to the starter relay. I figured that is where the red wire starts so I checked it and got no voltage.

The 30 amp fuse must be bad.

Yes, there should be 12V on the red wire at the starter relay. Check the fuse.

The aftermarket starter relay came with a 20 amp fuse and the old relay that came with the bike also had a 20 amp fuse. Should it be a 30?

I checked the main 20 amp fuse and it was good. The red and red/white wires on the 4-pin connector still show no voltage. The yellow/red and green/red wires show 12.80 volts

Yes, it should be a 30A fuse. Funny thing is the Red and Red/white should always have voltage if the 30A fuse is good and the Green /red and yellow/red should only have voltage if the key is on and the starter button is pushed in. Sounds to me like the aftermarket relay is set up backwards. I think if you were to make the wires exactly opposite of what you have now then you would have power at your ignition switch. The Red and Red/white wires are interchangeable as are the green/red and yellow/red. See attached diagram. Imagine if you were able to turn that 4 pin connector 180 degrees and plug it back in then your wiring would be right. Make sense? You can remove the wires from the plastic connectors, rearrange them and plug them back into the connector.

Ok, thanks. I'll see if I can rearrange the wires at the connector.

Ok, some headway. I rearranged the four wire at the connector as specified. Now when I turn the ignition to "ON", the tail light comes on and I'm getting a spark at the plugs. I'll have to fabricate some kind of connector to replace the old one because I had to break it to get the spades out. The bare spades touch each other a little. (I don't know if that would cause a short or not.)

Must have been the old relay was bad and the knew one was set up wrong. It's strange that the connector fit perfectly but the wires were wrong.
Now I have to replace the sidestand and fix some splices.

The head light still doesn't turn on but that problem was preexisting. Thanks a lot for the help, I was stumped on this problem for a while. I'm gonna charge the battery up and keep pushing on with this project. I might start a project thread. Thanks again.
