If it's just3 and 4, check the intake boots. Mine were all looseexcept the #1.Itwas the only thing holding the carbs on. That'll make it run like **** 4-sho. Make sure that the carbs are pushed fully into the boots too. If they are only partially pushed in, the boots can suck air. Alsomake sure the boots are not cracked from heat/age/dry rot and make sure they are complete/no chunks missing. Good luck.

as for the cams, you don't need to drop the engine, just remove the stuff above it (tank, airbox, etc) and then unbolt thevalvecover. be sure to buy new valve cover gasket when you do this.
