New here, Bike wont start
Hi all, Im new here so ill introduce myself. Im James from the UK and bourght an 87 CBR600 FH. Alls been well with the bike apart from an intermmitent starting problem. The first few times this happend I cured it by replacing the ignition fuse 10amp in the fuse box(although it hadent blown) and all was well. However this week the problem has re-emerged and the old fuse trick doesnt seem to be working, all conections checked round the box and the contacts themselves.
Now bike turns over but there is no spark getting to any of the plugs. I have as per a workshop manual tested the resistance in the pulser coils. Between one coil I am getting 488ohms but no resistance on the other. I would of thorght if one coil was falty there would still be sparks getting to 2 of the plugs and nothing to the others, but I am not getting any sparks anywhere? Or is it that the CDI needs both pulser coils to be functioning for it to operate?
Is there anything else that could cause this?
Many thanks
James

RE: New here, Bike wont start
Have you had the bike running at all? I suggest you clean all of the contacts in the multipin connectors that go from the triggers (in the LH (starter) cover up to the CDI and from the CDI down to the coils.
As far as I know you DO need to have both coils working.

From recent experience, you don't need to have both coils operational to get sparks from one of them, if the rest of the system is ok. I found this when I accidentally disconnected the feed to one coil and then started the bike. It will run on one coil (just - and boy does it sound funny).
