Default New guy 88 Hurricane

Hello- new here I recently picked up an 88 Hurricane- really decent shape in the charcoal paint scheme.
My friend had an 87 Hurricane back in 1990 and I always loved that bike. I had an 88 Katana, which was OK but definitely not as good. Anyway...

Has a couple small issues maybe you can help me with.

Intermittent blinkers- I think I read this is likely just bad switch.

Intermittent Tach and Speedo.

The tach seems to come alive if you rev to about 7K...and then it stays alive until next shutdown. Strange?

The speedo seems more random working or not.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site.

The blinker issue is usually dirty or corroded contacts. Many just spray WD40 on the contacts. I prefer to clean them with some fine emery paper.

The speedo and tach could be a little different. The tach is electrical and the speedo is mechanical off the front wheel. I would check the cable at both ends to determine if the ends are ok. If they are then the drive may be bad at the front wheel.

The tach you need to check connections. There is a plug under the front fairing for the tach connection to the main harness. There are wires in the harness that go into the engine. The sender could also be bad but I would check the wires first.

That's how mine looked when I bought it in 1999!
Still pretty close, but give it road rash, bigger tires, and lots of aftermarket parts.

I'm gonna try and keep it stock and void of road rash.

Very nice. And remember, even the Ninja hides from the Hurricane.

Nice bike, I had an 87 Hurricane as my first track bike. In the 600 class from the late 80's to late 90's, if you werent on a Honda you were racing for second place.

That was the original Hurricane commercial. Showed a Ninja climbing into his basement while the wind and rain whipped around his bamboo hut. It was a great ad.
