Need float bowl seals for 87 600F
Hi all,
First post. I read on one of the other threads from a while ago that a suitable replacement for the $25 kit from honda is to use 75 x 2 o-rings and glue them in place.
Does anyone know of a good supplier for them, or have some they would sell me? I've tried locally at a couple of hydraulic shops locally, and even Grainger, but no luck. (From my little hyrdraulic experience, I believe I need to use Viton o-rings due to fuel use.)
Free free to e-mail me directly notrihulls@charter.net
Thanks!

2mm is probably too big. The o-ring shouldbe smaller than the width of the groove in the bowlto allow for expansion, and should protrude above the surrounding surface by about 20-30%. If you know the groove depth you should be able to calculate the rest.
If you can't get the right O-ring OD, some placessell O-ring "string" which you can cut to length and glue the ends together with cyanoacrylate glue. That might work as long as you do a tidy job of cutting and butting the ends together.
The o-rings on my carbs have got a compression set (flattened surface) with age but still seem to seal OK. Can you reuse your existing ones?

I had been reusing them while rebuilding the carbs last year. I think they finally wore out. I had one bowl leak and bought the entire carb kit directlyfrom Honda. As luck would have it, as soon as I replaced that one, the other 3 started to leak.
The reason I had mentioned the 75 x 2 is that someone else had used them on an 88 600. See below.... Do you think that wouldn't work?

I guess seeing that they say it works,2mm x 75could be OK.
Ioffered the alternative because Iwas thinking of 2 things: 1.with the 2mm O-ring, we don't knowif the bowl actuallytightened onto the carb body, as I thought the 2mm diametermightprevent this, and might cause differences between the carbs (depending on how tightly each set was done up) because I've heardthat even small differences between the 4 carbs can make a difference to idle and other performance dueto internal changes of the dynamics of the fuel in the float bowl; and 2.as you were having difficulty getting the 75x2 I wasthinking ofalternativesthat could work, and why it didn't have to be 2mm dia, just to give you a few more options.
Happy hunting! Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the advice gear! I did understand what you were getting at. I thought about it too. I figured the other person tried it and it worked for them. And it is a cheap enough solution, if I can find a supplier.
I did see the kits for splicing. I even ran across square style make your own o-rings along the way, but it was a little expensive.
If I do run across an inexpensive supplier, I'll post again.
