Modding is done by drilling holes in the top and only helps if you have a jetkit installed.

Air box drilling needs a stage 3 jet kit. Get it running right with the stock box and then look at mods.

I think it is good for about 10% increase with a pipe.

where and how big do you drill these holes?

ive got a dynojet stage 3 kit in, a vance n hines pipe. and a k&n Filter

or is the k&n Good enough?

my 'cane runs wicked strong, stronger than pre jet kit

i started with stage 2, she put up with it nice, then went to 3, even happier

will it be worth doing?

Well here is my .02. You must remember each "stage" increases the fuel input very drastically. My bike has a pipe, filter, and 6* ignition advancer. For me the stage 1 was perfect. I had my bike set-up running the stage 2 setup but honestly after I went back to the stage 1, I shaved off about 1 second in my quarter mile times! The difference in jetting between the stage 1 and stage 2 is VERY significant!! I didn't even know they made a stage 3 for the hurricanes. In my opinion, a stage 3 kit would only be needed for internal modifications such as pistons, cams, or headwork. Drilling holes I think is a useless mod. Our carbs are "constant velocity" meaning they rely on the airbox airpressure. Drilling the lid may adversely affect the performance of your motorcycle. A stage 3 is ALOT of fuel.

Also remember, aftermarket jet kit makers number their jet sizes differently then the carb manufactures. Meaning a Keihin 110 is not the same as a Dynojet 110. There is a chart I posted a while ago somewhere in the Hurricane section if you look for it.

Dynojet only makes a stage 1 and 2 Jet kit for the 600.
Factory Pro makes a jet kit called a Config 3.0, some people may confuse this for meaning stage 3. Factory pro uses Keihin jets.

Now people, a major factor in jetting your bike is ambient air temp. meaning that if i was to take my bike from here in canada, and take it to california, I would need to lean it out as the air temp is much hotter down there. (to put it in basic terms). So you need to jet your bike to what the AVERAGE air temp and humidity is around your geographical area.

Now installing a jet kits IS NOT as simple as simply saying I want more power so im going to put in a larger main jet. (yes that works in some cases, but not full potential)

When you install a larget main jet, you increase the richness oh ALL RPM ranges, and your main jet only really contributes signifigantly to your high rpm area (somewhere around 7500 - redline). SO you need to know how to properly tune your jet kit, and go through the proper steps. To properly tune a jet kit, you literally have to have the carbs in and out at least 10 times.

well this explains a lot

i looked at the box my dynojet kit came in, its actually for a '85 600r ninja

looks like a got away with one here, i used the jets and the needles
im up to 132 main jets, so despite the "youre not supposed to do this"
"this isnt the right kit" whatever, i put this kit in my carbs and its running great, so oh well if it wasnt supposed to happen but it did

ha, even worse, now the other label reveals :

jet kit stage 1&3
Kawasaki 600R Ninja
1985 Canadian Only
2/05/98

well i dont know how this happened, but my 'Cane love this kit, runs better than it ever has

oh well thank the bike gods for small favors?
