Displaying a 1 is normal. Probably shows something like 1.000 or something along those lines. That just means there is is no continuity which is good. Just make sure you are touching a part of the frame that doesn't have any paint on it. After checking each of the 3 terminals to the frame, then make the checks between each of the terminals and each other.

Default Finally.....

After a long week!

I got the multimeter out again but I’m crap with electrics unless I’m soldering a wire or something.

I put the red wire on the positive batter terminal and the black wire on each of the 3 stator wires. It read 0.02volts for each.

I did the same for the R/R wires and two were 0, one was 12v.

can someone interpret the results for me?

Default More thorough

I got time to take the rectifier off.

Multimeter red to the positive terminal on R/R, each of the other 3 wires showed nothing on the reading.

multimeter red to the negative on the R/R, each of the other 3 wires showed between 570 and 580.

this means the R/R is ok and it’s the stator?

one of the connections looks a little black and the plastic around ever so slightly charred.

am I doing something wrong?
The check you did here indicates that the Stator is not shorted to ground, that is good. Now you need to check between 1 yellow wire and another yellow wire. It doesn't matter what other yellow wire (in that 3P connector) you choose. On the 2K ohm scale, it should read between 0.1 and 1 ohm.

I’ll do that today. I’ve bought new connectors and chopped the wires so I can get a clean and fresh connection between the stator and rectifier. The connector block between the rectifier and battery was dirty so I’ve given that a clean too. I almost decided to solder the wires together without a connector block but it makes maintenance in the future more difficult.

if the stator is ok then what’s my next avenue? The battery terminals are all good. I cannot find that green ground wire.

Default .....

So I tested the wires, messed around with which ones I touch and even reversed the order of black/red.

Each time it reads 0.03ohms

what now..? 🙃

The Stator is good then. Providing good connections for it will help in the future. I believe the Regulator/Rectifier is bad. I would replace it. Replace that and I think you'll be good to go. Naturally check the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running after you replace the R/R to verify.

Thanks for all your help so far. what makes you think the RR is bad? The tests checked out as far as I could tell.
