Question Looking for some expert opinions

I am looking to buy my first street bike. I currently have a dualsport crf50 (88cc) that is plated and i have my motocycle license (took the motorcycle safety class when i was 17 in MD). I also have a 150cc daytona pitbike and i have ridden friend's dirt bikes and atvs as well. I found an 87 cbr600 for sale in my area that is still running strong as far as i know and it is going for $1500 which include a D&D full system pipe. Would this be a good first buy and started bike? Is the weight an issue?...hopefully ill be able to check the bike out this sunday

Its only a ~450lb bike wet so they are lighter ( I have a 88 Hurricane 600 for my first bike) and it is plenty of power for a starter. Make sure the fork seals are good because that can cause major issues and you get a good feel for the clutch and driving in traffic (it's weird and intimidating at first) but other than that sounds like a good buy. I dont know much about the price of CBR's so the other guys will probably be able to help you out with that more than I can!

Thanks for those tips!

i've also found some 600f4i's (year 2001-2005 range) for around $3500-4500 (if carbon parts or what not) as well as some 250 ninjas for around $2500-3000.

any reason to choose one of those newer bikes over the hurricane or as long as the hurricane is in good shape would that still be a good option since it is cheaper?

That's kinda high blue book is $1,000. 25K miles? Make sure you love the sound of that pipe, a loud pipe may sound good at first, but at 6:00 in the morning or long highway trips a loud pipe will give you a headache. And disguise motor noise.

well the post was apparently deleted so I guess the hurricane is out of the question since he never responded to me so i'll wait for something to come along...

there are a few ninja 250's '08 and '09 for around $2500-3000
or what about cbr600f4i's (year ranging from 2000-2005) for around $3500-4500

any input on those bikes?!?!

Too bad bout the hurricane would have made a great first bike, these are awesome machines from what I've seen, and in good shape 1500 wasn't bad at all, forget kbb when it Comes to bikes this old, these are collectors bikes already( in mint shape) I was offered 2500 the other day by a friend of the shop that's servicing mine.

I wouldn't go with a 250. 600 I a good starting point for anyone with decent hand eye coordination an a little patience. My buddy had a '10 ninja 250 and he was tired of it in 2 months. Get something you will be able to enjoy for at least a season. A F4i would be a great starter bike as well. Lurks quicker than the hurricane but non the less light and plenty of starter power. You will be glad you went with a 600 over a 250. Also, stick with Honda! Can't go wrong with some of the most comfortable and reliable sport bikes out there.

Dont get a 250, you will be bored in a month. To be honest I would recommend a F4i if you can afford it as its fuel injected :P much better than ripping your carbs out every year to clean them.
