Been reading through the forums and learning quite a bit about this bike. All in all, it seems to be a very decent bike. I've been riding on and off for the last 15 years of my life. I aquired an 1988 Hurricane for some mechanic work I have done for a friend.
31k miles and needs alot of attention but it fires up and runs with an aftermarket fuel pump for a few seconds at a time. Perfect winter project and I am looking forward to getting it ready by summer. Unfortunately some redneck owned it beforehand and beat it up pretty good. I am a seasoned Mazda Rotary mechanic so believe me, I will be digging far into this and hopefully come out with a nice bike in the end.
My name is Mike and I hopefully I will spend alot of time here reading up and learning the common issues and fun times with the 'Canes.

They're a great bike... have fun. For their age, they've got great performance, handling and brakes, and the handling has got even better as tyre technology has improved over the last 20 years. My suggestions: emulators in the forks, check the frame for a crack beside the top left through-bolt, decent set of tyres (lots of opinions here on that!) and then give it heaps.

31k miles, Got it fired up this morning and let it run for 20 mins after I checked the fluids. Stock fuel pump is missing but the person who I got it from says he has alot of parts and panels for it. Supertrapp muffler as well. Gonna be one long winter project. Cant wait to take it out this spring/summer

My biggest advice, make damned sure you've got a fuel filter on it before the fuel pump(if you have one) watch the regulator/rectifiers, and just generally enjoy it. I LOVE my 87.
Once you get it tuned right and become familiar, its worth every drop of blood, every tear, and every ounce of sweat you put into it.
