Default Jetting ?? Sprockets??

So I just picked up my first CBR a few months ago....
I had a jet kit and K+N put in just before I put it away for the winter and I'm not sure what the deal is with it now....
Before I jetted it the throttle was really responsive. Now it bogs for a second before it takes off.... it's not real bad..... just not real good either.

Anyone got any suggestions??

Oh, and I was going to get a new sprocket and 520 kit from Sum of All Parts soon.... any suggestions on gearing? I ws thinking 14-46... or 15-47....
I just want to be able to pull away from lights without slipping the clutch so much.... and I wouldn't mind being able to wheelie a little slower either.....

Anyone got any suggestions?? How bad is this going to kill my top speed??

you probably need to clean your carbs and get them synced. this should take care of your problem. to prevent this from happening, you either need to drain your carbs before storing away or once every week start the bike up and let it run for a few minutes to run fresh fuel through the system.

as for your gearing, the numbers you gave are the same. stick with the stock front and go 2+ in the back. as for your top speed, how fast do you really want to go? 120? 130? 140? more? with 15-47, you should make 130 or 140 no problem.

Thanks for the input... but I think that 15-47 is different from 14-46 ... I always thought that every -1 in front was = +3 in back.... maybe I'm wrong....

what about the 520 chain conversion? I'm a little worried about chain life and the lighter chain stretching

Has anyone out there done this?

Oh... and I'm not really worried about what my top speed is... I just don't want to be at 9,000RPM to maintain 70 on the highway

stock HP numbers for 87-90 run in the 75-82 HP range. should be no problem for a 520 chain to handle. as far as life expectency of a 520 vs a 530, i don't know. don't know anyone who has one installed.

Tell us how the sprocket goes. I've been wanting to do it but don't want to sacrifice any life of the chain.

I just ordered the 520 kit with a 14-46 gearing.... I'll let everyone know how it feels once I get it on and I get a day to ride it.....
The guy at the shop calculated what effect the gearing would have on the bike

cruising at 70 will move from 6000 rpm to about 7000 and top speed will drop about 10 mph ..... we'll see once I actually get to ride it

agreed with the numbers.

I bought my bike with different sprokets but I believe it's -1 up front and +2 in the rear and I don't even look at the speedo on the highway because 6K is about 60 mph, 7K =70, 8K = 80 pretty much up to 130-135 is the fastest I've got it up to so far. but thats plenty fast for me and I love the increased acceleration over top speed.

let us know what you think once you get to ride it

With the nice 60 deg. december weather here in illinois I had a few days to ride with the new sprocket and it was great... I still have the jetting issue, and no , it's not from gummed up carbs the issue started right when I had the kit installed....

but the 14-46 gearing felt great, I can coast along without any gas and it doesn't bog down.... topping out 4th used to be about 120 on the spedo, not it's 110 or so... I would highly recommend this to anyone!!! it was a major improvement
