Default Hurricane Engine

This may be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure. My buddy has a 90 hurricane 600, he got the bike for 100 bucks cuz the guy that had it blew the number 2 rod right out the front of the block. We found a used motorcycle dealership that has an 87 hurricane engine for 250. I was looking on earlier threads and someone said that the changed the engine and gave it more bhp starting in 89. I just want to know if the 87 engine will fit in his bike without ANY problems.

Engine size and mounting from what I understand is exactly the same. They only tuned more performance out of the engine.

you'll need to swap the pulse generator out of the 90 motor and put it in the 87. 90's only had one, 87-89 had two. that way the wiring to the CDI is right.
if the head is good on the 90, you might consider using it, and the carbs too.

wheres the pc19 or 23 stamped? cant find it on the papers any where. I read the 93 hp one is stated as 600cc vs 598cc for the 85hp. Now mines a 90 fk on the rego but what i want to confirm is did the 93hp come out in the last f1 and the first f2 as both models were built in 1990 but as we all no the f2 was the first big upgrade. mine has 598cc on the papers . At the end of the day its only an xtra 8 hp but it all counts lol.

The 87 motor will fit just fine. The 87 motor has a 4-wire trigger system, and 90 has a 2-wire system, and the 90 motor trigger has more 'fingers' on it. So, take the trigger and the related stuff off of the 90 motor, and install it on the 87 motor you get, so your 90 CD box will work properly. I had to do the reverse when I swapped a 90 motor for my blown-up 87 motor.

Hope that helps!

edit: Oops tripicana beat me to it.
