Default RE: fuel delivery problem

Well, I thought I ran the bike out of gas the other day. Couldn't get it started after I put gas in it. Rolled it down the hill and got it started. Next day while warming it up it died, with plenty of gas. I tried testing the fuel pump once, but I didn't have much gas in there, I had drained some out. After taking the tank, fuel pump, and air box off, draining the float bowls, filling the tank and trying to run it without the fuel pump, then reassembling everything....still it wouldn't start. Battery was getting dead, so I put the charger on it. My roommate came home and while it was on the charger he started it. It ran for a few then died. For about 30 min he was starting it, running it, it'd die, it was running like crap. Eventually, it started and kept running sounding normal. Took it off the charger and it's been running fine. Any thoughts?

Also, this bike as been painted by prior owner, what are the fuel petcock settings? I know where off is, but not sure which one is RES or ON.

fuel pump on these bikes aren't like a FI bike these will pump once when you hit the key on and then once running they pump intermitantly. don't expect a constant pressure flow from the fuel line if you disconnect it. all it does is pump enough to keep the float bowls full. it must be triggered by ignition somewhere that triggers it with RPM of the ignition system because it will pump faster as you increase RPM

THanks. That I guess is almost what mine is at. Mine must be shifted clockwise a little. If North is straight up, mine is ON is Northeast, OFF is about south, RES must me almost West. Cool. Good to have that figured out.

check the voltage on the regulator/rectifier. that may be the cause of your problem.
