Default Fork Question

Hello, I recently bought an 88 Hurricane that needed a bit of care.

After replacing the fork seals, I had my brother ride the Hurricane (since he knows more than I do about bikes), and he said that over harder bumps the forks seem to bottom out (he said he could hear a noise when it would happen too).

I tried increasing the air pressure in the forks to 6psi, which might have helped some, but I am told it will still bottom out.

I am pretty new to these types of bike in general, and I also ride pretty conservatively, so not only haven’t I noticed this before, but I do not know if it is normal or not. Can anyone help?

I don't know man, did you remember to pump the forks when you added the fluid? Don't know if that might cause something.... Are you leaking any fluid?

Thanks for responding!
I did remember to pump the forks and I am not leaking any fluid (or air).

On the cane a lot of noise from harsh bumps can be the gas tank and/or loose plastics. The gas tank fix is easy, get some rubber spacers to go on either side of the tank on the pinch welds between the tank and frame. Also check the mounting point rubber and bolts to make sure they are tight and not too detiorated. If it is the tank you will also notice a bad buzz/rattle/vibration around 6500-7500 rpm, but it can show up at other rpm's. There is also a slim possibility that the anti dive piston is bad, either stuck open or closed. The plastics you just need to make sure everything is tight. good luck

Thank you for those tips! I suspect you are right about things not being as tight as they could be. Too often in the past I was accused of overtightening things, and so I now I have developed a complex and stop before I think it is good. I will go over things this weekend and make sure they are tight.
