Fairing Install

Fairing Install
First bike. 89 F1 I recently picked up for cheap. The current fairings are very rough and the side covers are zip tied on. I'm confused as to how the fairings are held on to the bike normally. I see the bolt holes on the fairings but nothing underneath to bolt into. This may be a stupid question, but some guidance would be appreciated. I found replacement fairings and want to know before I get started.

Thanks for the help. I just purchased all new fairings, takes about a month to make and ship out.
Another quick question. Where can I find replacement fairing bolts? Are they specific or can I just go to the hardware size and search the metric sizes?
Also, anyone know where I might find the 2 pieces that go on the inside of the front fairing around the gauges?

All the fairing bolts you can buy at the hardware store, they won't be perfect because Honda uses funny lengths. You can usually get them a MM or so either longer or shorter and gap them with some washers. The only ones you HAVE to buy from Honda will be the inspection panel clips. As those are pretty unique. At $13 a pop all 4 will costs around $55 with tax

I got all mine from the local hardware store also. The thread pitch is a standard size (can't remember what is is), and should be pretty easy to find a length that works.
The 2 small panels around the gauges you'll probably have to search ebay/craigslist for. I don't think anyone is making reproductions of them so you're going to have to find a used set somewhere.
