Default Electrical problem?

So i just bought my 90 cane not running, had a dead battery and some people i know were riding with this kid a few months ago so i figured it ran, new battery, it turns over, all the lights work, it's gettin gas, you can smell it in the exhaust but no fire, i pulled a plug and no spark. what could it be? is there something common that goes bad? also, i noticed that there appears to be a few plugs undone in the harness, two small ones under the tank and one big one under the seat. then one in the battery box but i assume it's for a computer or something. any thoughts, tips or other advice is greatly appreciated.

actually, after looking at a service manual, it appears as though the "spark unit" is missing...

well i'm thinkin the crank trigger, which had of the sensors rubbing the crank, is bad, or the module itself which had a ground attached to the case has been shorted out inside.
