Default Electrical gremlins

O.k. So, my 1989 cbr seemed to have trouble keeping the battery charged. If it didn't start on first couple of tries it would kill the battery [even a new one.]
Then it wouldn't even light up, with a new battery. I checked for short but couldn't find any.
I put in a new relay switch. I got it to start by jumping it from a car battery. It was running very rough and the tacomiter was going up and down wildly.
So I replaced the rectifier, regulator. The battery still doen't seem to work. When I hook it up to a trickle charger the tac goes to 3, and the lights go on. When I press the start button eather the relay clicks or all the lights go out. When the lights go out , I turn the power off and then on agian and it comes back on.

This is a modern bike for me. I use to old bikes with simple wiring. I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I went to the ladies only section, and boys you aint missin nothin!

thanks in advance for any help.

I suspect the stator is gone, and you have a LOT of issues that need to be addressed via volt/ohm meter to determine the source of the problems.

but majorly, look at your wiring harness for any ghetto riggings, and grounded wires/short circuits that may affect things such as your tach and other stuff. hell, be glad you HAVE a working tach, mine just sits pretty at 0 whether its running or at redline and hitting the limiter.

If your not used to bikes of this age, I suggest you download the CBR600F manual from CBRextreme.com and the Honda Common service manual, & work through their electrical troubleshooting sections. Could save a lot of time & $.
