Default Electrical Gremlins

The CBR1000f is starting to do my head in electrically. It's the M model registered 1992, 32k miles and going great. I love the big beast

But the blasted thing keeps blowing fuses.

It started with the horn giving me grief (story of my life) and it still does it.

Press the horn it blows the fuse. Try bigger fuses it blows the main 30A fuse.
When the fuse blows it also takes out the brake lights and indicators which are on the same fuse. I kind of have it down to the switch but everything seems ok in there. So I don't touch the horn and everything is well. Got it down for a winter strip and fix.

Now over the last couple of weeks it's the bloody headlight fuse. When the bike is idling all is well, lights are on. When I pull away and get about 100 yards up the street the fuse has blown.

Now I've measured the voltage across the headlight fuse with the bike running and it gives me 14.5V, the exact same as across the battery with the bike running. Is this correct or should it be 12V across the lights which would point to the reg/rect. No?

I have checked all the wiring for breakages etc and can find nothing.

A new reg/rect is £60 and don't want to splash the cash if it isn't that.

Anyone any ideas?

Andy

14.5 is okay but not to say that the R/R is not dicky , what reading are you getting at

4k rpm ...........I'll bet it's more than 14.5 and if so you may have confirmed the answer

I'd look at the horn button first to ensure there's no short there.
Then the horn - they sit out there in the weather, so could be a short there.
Next, the fuse panel...........
Then the relevant wiring in the loom.........

It's just a case of eliminating possible suspects

could it be the ignition ??? Not likely, but...............
