Default confused

ok i just bought this bike and i have gotten it running its a 87 cbr 600 and i got it started with starting fluid on Saturday. Well yesterday when i hooked everything back up with the gas tank it fired up but what I'm not understanding is the plug wires are in the order of 1234 from left to right when sitting on the bike. It starts but there is a ticking noise coming from the engine and it didn't make this noise Saturday when i was using the starting fluid but when i read the service manual i downloaded the on off of here it says the firing order is 1243 but when i put the plug wires in the 1243 order it will just back fire and not start. I already know i need to get a fuel pump for it due to i have it set up as gravity fed now just to test some stuff out. The fuel pump will be put on when i get it.can some one please help me out with this.

The left coil fires 2-3 the right coil fires 1-4.

The rattle noise may be the CCT.
If it sounds like bb's in a can and changes with throttle/rpm,
that's the most likely cause.

Hope this helps, Ern

it's actually the other way around. Left coil fires 1, and 4 while right coil fires 2, and 3

I've heard that Honda changed the diameter of the carbs for the year 1990, the diameter of the carbs might be bigger than the intake on the bike.

About the CCT, you can't really test it unless you have a working one. The Honda automatic CCT is notorious for failing though. You might as well buy the Manual CCT off EBAY and save yourself some trouble. install is easy, two bolts off, remove, replace, then two bolts on

Ooops, mis-read the post. I thought it was a 97.
So I withdraw my comment on firing order.

Sorry about that, Ern

i was talking about the fuel hoses for the fuel set up going from the tank to the carbs not the actual carbs sorry for the confusion. and I'M going to get the Manual CCT off ebay i took my bike to my buddy today and he said he would bet that is what the noise is he said he had to adjust his on his ninja Zx6 and on one of his older cbrs he had before the bike he has now had a manual cct on it.

Those hoses look like they will work to hook up the electric pump. I don't think you will need the hose and tee its hooked to in the upper right corner of the pic though. My 87 doesn't have that.
