not to mention the 1st gen ex's look like crap when put beside a CANE lol. but ya the cbr is definetly the better buy regardless of condition, all early kawi's had transmission problems, and I seen an ex500 sitting running, then POP out comes a rod through the frot of the case, just like that.

Exactly. Kawi DRASTICALLY improved the EX500, but that didnt happen until 1994, and then the engine got nothing but a cam chain tensioner, and a better transmission. I"d rather have the Hurricane with its heavy but dependable design over that POS EX500 with its weakly built motor that blows up too easy.

I have had pretty good luck with my hurricane, and it is mostly and easy bike to work on. nothing too challenging, and it is a very nice bike that a lot of people still really like today. there is a reason everyone knows what they are lol! WEnt to pickup a bike for my father at a big dealer (nationalpowersportsdistributors.com, GREAT place!) and 2 guys in there noticed my bike even without it having any decals of any kind. Both wanted to know how it was running, and when I told them great they both nodded and said of course it was. They actually both told me to never get rid of it as it was a fantastic bike. so, I would say keep it, I love mine and so do other people lol!

If your worrying about running costs buy two. There cheap enough these days, and a donor bike can be good. All depends on what you buy. As with any bike. Set a price, look for faults, and bid down.
