Did you check the thermostat? Is the water pump pumping? Are there any blockages in the system?

The thermostat opens fully @ 83 deg C (about 180F) the pump will lift water out of a bucket and throw it about 6 feet across the garden ( oops ) and water runs well through the system, i just cant seem to get rid of the air lock, on my next attempt it will be my 4th bottle of antifreze/summer coolant,
I was thinking about trying to fill the system from the bottom up, ie- through the water pump drain bolt and then the 2 cyclinder jacket bolts.

the air should make its way out. i've always squeezed the radiator hoses to kinda help purge the air out when refilling the system. try leaning the bike over to the left and right. is it actualy overheating, or maybe a bad sender or gauge? if your thermostat checks out, i'd look into a blocked radiator.

Thanks for the advice both of you,

I will off the rad and see how free flowing it is and find some old oil out to check the thermo sender,

does anyone know the optimal running temp or max temp these 600F-H engines should run at?

cheers

i bet 180 is half to three quarters on the temp gauge. above 210 would be getting near the top. at constant speed, my gauge usualy shows 1/4 to 1/2, so i'm guessing thats 170-180 degrees.

Thumbs up

thanks for all the info guys,

the squeezing the pipes trick worked and now she runs at constant speed at just under half way on the temp guage
