Bike Died while doing 45mph??????Update!
I was out cruising today through some widy roads, when all of a sudden my bike started boggin down and then letting off, for a few seconds then straight died. I put the clutch in tried to get it to fire, no response what so ever from the start button(full battery). I called the mechanic i know and he thinks it could be a stator or a short, or something else hes not positive so i dont like his opinion so what do you all think, need to know asap!!!!

RE: Bike Died while doing 45mph??????
my first guess would be rectifier/regulator. next would be CDI. and 3rd would be a short. stators don't usually go bad but it could be a possiblity.
i would check the main fuse (30A). check your wire loom for any frays, shorts, burn marks, loose connections, etc.
the clue here is no starter response. check that circuit wiring andcheck the fuse.

now it sounds like you have 2 problems.
1. bike dies out while riding
2. cannot start bike afterwards.
so...now the starter motor makes a faint noise. could be your starter is going. or check the amount of juice going to the starter terminals. get a meter and see what you get. also, check the starter relay. maybe it's not passing enough juice to the starter motor.
until you get that figured out, i don't think it will be easy to diagnose your flame-out without the bike at least running.

RE: Bike Died while doing 45mph??????
Ok charged the battery again and fired it up. Started strong, took it for a spin, died after about 4 miles of riding, lights all still on the dash & headlight, but no response from the starter. Could it be something sucking the **** out of the battery(short i hope not), or is the battery toast(only 2 months old gel battery).
voltage 12.4 running, turn off let it sit half hour fired right up 12.4, does the battery need to be charged every once and a while? or is it the r/r?

Ok so i charged the bike over night. Fired it up took it for a 25 miles cruise, came home turn it off, and then out of curiosity i tried to turn it back on, very weak starter sounds.
Ok heres my specs on the system today
sitting after charge
12.4
Running 13.4 - It was charging, and then shut the bike off. Then fired it back up and it didnt charge(check charging system)
Ok i checked the wires for the R/R came out 12.4 sitting same as battery
I checked the Alternator wire came out to be 0.5-0.7 was bouncing back and forth between those numbers.
What else is there to check if the R/R and alternator/stator check out ok whats next a short somewhere or CDI?
