Default bad fuel pump?

Ok when i am trying to start my bike the fuel pump is not pushing anything through, but when I bypass it and gravity feed it starts ticking like it is working. And fuel is pouring out of my carbs ( are my floats stuck), shouldn't it stop when the carb is full?

Have you tried disconnecting the fuel pump discharge hose and then try pushing the start button? Does anything come out? Are the fuel pump hoses installed right ( suction/discharge )? If it's ticking then at least it's working electrically. Need more info. What year bike? Did it run before? Did you do anything to it?

is the fuel pump ticking or is it the relay? fuel should not pour out of your carbs.

1.The pump only pumps when it needs to send fuel. If the carbs are full, the pump won't pump. But if they are leaking, the pump will pump to fill them up. But they shouldn't be leaking unless you unscrew the drain on the bottom.

2. There is a relay that is for safety. It will not allow power to the pump unless the motor is running. It triggers off the coil system. If the motor is actually cranking, it should be able to pump.

3. Not sure what the probem is exactly, but you can figure it out pretty quick. Unhook the output fuel line from the front of the pump. (The one going to the carbs.) And connect a piece of fuel line that you can run out and into a fuel container, or back into the tank. I use a 3' piece. Turn on the gas, and try to start. It should pump fuel. If not, you have a problem.

4. I'm hoping you are fine. Not sure what you meant by "bypassing" the pump. If you unhooked the pump, and tried to start the bike without unplugging the pump. It would spit out fuel that could be interpreted as carbs leaking??

Good Luck

by bypassing I meant that i hooked it up just by gravity feed.
